The place to explore

A world apart.

The Bothy is part of a small community of exclusive properties on the banks of Rudyard Lake - a place that so enchanted Mr and Mrs Kipling they gave its name to their famous son! At 2.5 miles long and more than 2 centuries old, Rudyard is one of the longest and most idyllic stretches of water in England occupying a picturesque setting between the Peak District and the Staffordshire moorlands. Unspoilt and un-hurried the area is a well-kept secret.

While staying at The Bothy you might choose to shut out the world, but it would be a shame not to explore your surroundings, as Rudyard is the perfect setting for exploration and adventure. There is a lovely walk around the lake - a total distance of about 5 miles. Stop at the new Lakeside Visitor Centre, take a cruise on the 'Honey'' or ride the miniature steam train that runs along the East shore.

With everything you need on hand and equipment provided, why not try rowing, canoeing or fishing. The lake is a haven for wildlife, particularly
birds - herons, kingfishers and cormorants, while the tranquil waters are teaming with roach, bream and champion pike. Or cycle along the shore and explore the bridle ways. If you feel like venturing further afield, you could visit nearby Leek - a fascinating market town with some delightful antique centres. Or spend the day at Alton Towers, Waterworld or the Potteries. You will find full details of these activities and more in your welcome pack. Alternatively, sit on the terrace and let the Hot tub do the work!
